My Leisure Consultant was established by Joanne Martin following 20 active years in the leisure industry, working across a range of sectors that included sports club management, blue chip client Account Management for a 5 star resort, high profile televised sports events management and more recently as the Sales, Marketing and Business Development Director for a national leisure Company, working directly with a range of public and private clients and other leisure consultants.

Joanne Martin Bio

Joanne Martin offers a diverse breadth of knowledge in the leisure and culture industry. Following a mathematics degree at the University of Sussex she worked as the Sports Development manager for the University of Wales, Cardiff and later as the Special Events Manager for the luxurious and high-profile Celtic Manor Resort in South Wales, host to the Ryder Cup in 2010.

After delivering a number of prestigious corporate, sports and entertainment events for the Celtic Manor Resort, several of which were televised, Joanne joined Parkwood Leisure in 2009 as the Assistant Regional Director for the South West. As an operational director responsible for 20 varied leisure and culture venues, Joanne had the largest territory for an ARD at that time, and led the commissioning of a new flagship £30m PFI leisure Centre in Bristol.

Following a promotion to the national Sales and Marketing Director role in 2011, Joanne led both the Sales and Marketing departments and Business Development teams to success, growing core income streams by 18.7% and improving the win rate for new business proposals. Joanne was one of four Board members responsible for £85m revenues / £4.5m of profits; 90 diverse venues with 25 local authority clients; a budget of £2m and managed 15 skilled personnel. The portfolio included leisure centres, theatres, outdoor activity sites, conference centres and destination venues.

Joanne later worked as the Business Development Director for Sodexo UK & Ireland in the Government and Agencies sector, with a £300m pipeline and £260m annual revenues.

With her varied work across both sales and marketing and business development Joanne naturally transitioned into Consultancy, supporting local authorities, NGBs and other larger consultancy businesses as an Associate Director.

Joanne is able to draw on her experience and understanding as an operator, while utilising nearly 20 years’ success in sports development, project management, commercial income generation through sponsorships, sales and marketing growth, business development and public procurement bidding, business strategy development, organisational governance and business reviews.

She holds a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics, is NEBOSH qualified with Distinction, holds a PRINCE2 Project Management Certificate, is certified as National Pool Plant Operator and is currently studying AAT accountancy qualifications.
